The Career Guidance Cell of Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata organised a panel discussion on ” Liberal Education – an interdisciplinary approach” on 9th August, 2021. The panelists were Ms. Himi Purkayastha, Regional Manager(East), Office of Admissions and Outreach, Ashoka University, Ms. Anju Deoskar, Associate Director, Admissions Outreach, Flame University and Ms. Meenu Arora, Assistant Director, Krea University. While Ms. Meenu Arora shared what is Liberal Education and why is it gradually gaining importance in India, Ms. Anju Deoskar described the structure of a Liberal Education degree, the concept of pure major, interdisciplinary major and minor, finally Ms. Himi Purkayastha talked about the importance of summer programmes, career prospects of Liberal Education, placements as well as success stories of students who have been employed by organizations of repute.
The speakers made it very clear through their presentations the skills which the employers are looking for in the 21st century. They highlighted how the new age careers are amalgamation of Science, Technology as well Humanities or Commerce and how a student of Liberal Arts and Sciences can stand out in this scenario.
The discussion was attended by the teachers and students of senior school and ended with a Q and A session where the students asked many pertinent questions.
